Name the three layers of a three-tier architecture and the responsibility of each.

Name the three layers of a three-tier architecture and the responsibility of each.

Answer

Client tier = presentation (user interface); application/Web server tier = processing/business logic (rules, builds queries); database server tier = storage (the DBMS stores, retrieves, and protects data).

Each tier can be scaled, updated, and secured independently — the reason you can swap the DBMS by changing only the middle tier.
